Jim Ugly: Brynn T.

Jim Ugly by Sid Fleischman

If your into a good mystery, then you'll love this book. In this book it tells a tale of how young loving, determined, and smart Jake tries to find his “dead” dad. I know that Jake is loving because he loves his dad so much that he risked his own life to find him and bring him home. I also know that Jake I determined because he never gave up on finding his dad even when a mean man called the Yellowleg tries to hurt him and his dog Jim Ugly. Lastley, I know that he is smart because he was able to figure out that his dad wasn’t even dead at all and he was able to find him in the end and bring him home. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a mystery and an action packed book because this book is full of it. And if anything I like the book as it is. It is funny, action packed, full of mystery and I love it.

Mysterious Benedict Society: Camden H.

The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner's Dilemma by Trenton Lee Stewart

When darkness falls over Stonetown, the members of the mysterious Benidict society all know who is behind this devilish crime. Three great friends go on a journey to stop the ten men while trying to save their friend, Constance Contraire, a girl with amazing abilities. On their journey it is mostly downhill and they end up letting go of something that would be deadly if it got into the wrong person's hands. That person is Ledroptha Curtain. Mr. Curtain is an enemy and a twin of Mr. Benidict. Reynie is a positive boy who is always thinking, Kate is a confident girl who never gives up, and Sticky is a very smart boy with a photographic memory. Join them in the third book of the mysterious benidict society where they will fight crime and possibly save the world.

Inference: Mr. Curtain does not favor his ten men.

Evidence: Mr. Curtain said that a monkey would be smarter than one of his ten men. [page # 262]

Explanation: People use insults to be mean to other people. Also, monkeys might be smart, but I doubt that they are smarter than a human. All monkeys do all day are swing around on vines but the ten men were helping Mr. Curtain, even if they are not doing it very well.

Absolutely Truly: Bella M.

Absolutely Truly
  By Heather Vogel Frederick

Summary:Absolutely Truly is about Truly Lovejoy, a 12 year old, quiet and withdrawn girl, though her height of 6ft. certainly attracts attention. Truly is happy at her home in Austin, Texas but when the family bookstore is in danger of closing, Truly’s war veteran father moves their family of seven from warm Texas to frigid, tiny, and boring Pumpkin Falls, New Hampshire. No fun is expected in this town, but when Truly finds a twenty year old love letter in a signed copy of Charlotte’s Web, Truly goes on a wild goose chase to find the clues of this mystery.Meanwhile, the bookstore is being spruced to produce some sales. But the signed book ends up being stolen by a terror that is head to toe covered in kittens. Truly and her friends race around town to end these mysteries and end up finding them in the strangest places, from a bell tower to a frozen waterfall.

Inference:Truly can endure the best and the worst.

Evidence:Pages 2-10
Truly has been moving and transferring through schools and homes so she knows not to get attached. She was also brave when she climbed the bell tower to get a letter. She endures her father’s scary speeches and evil eye looks and her father’s crazy math tutoring schedule. She can even endure teasing from one of the most annoying boys in school.

Explanation: Truly’s father is a war veteran so she knows when to expect that they’re moving to another state. Because of this Truly knows that she can’t be friends with someone for long. She also seems to be enduring her father’s phase of being silent and cranky after he lost his arm in Vietnam. She is very tough to endure all of this but she also endured climbing a bell tower to get a clue for her wild goosechase and endured being partially deaf until tuesday because her idiot friend Scooter rang the big 30-ton bell in her ears.  She also endured losing her swimming championship against the towns rival. But most of all, she endured falling from a bridge into a half frozen river and almost drowning. That’s one tough cookie!

Eragon: Lucine CC.

ERAGON

INFERENCE                           EVIDENCE

      EXPLANATION
Image result for saphira eragonEragon and Brom come across a village that has been destroyed and the people killed. They soon find out it was Urgals who did it, vicious monsters. There were still two Urgals there, and amongst the battle Brom is injured and knocked out cold. Eragon leads the Urgals away from Brom and takes them on alone. It was selfless and brave, knowing he’s never fought Urgals before and he didn’t know how to defeat them, but he fought them so Brom wouldn’t die.
Eragon and Murtagh were almost to the Varden when Saphira spotted an army of Kull while she was flying overhead. Kull are oversized and much stronger and advanced Urgals. They were coming towards them fast. Murtagh threw Eragon onto Saphira and told them to fly to the Varden and leave him behind. But as Saphira took off Eragon turned her around and stayed with Murtagh to fight alongside him, even though he knew they stood no chance, he wouldn’t leave Murtagh to fight them alone. That proves him strong willed because he disobeyed Murtagh to do what he knew was right and selfless and brave because he could have flown off with Saphira, gone to the Varden and let Murtagh die, but he went back to help Murtagh so both of them would reach the Varden and finally be safe.
Eragon took on the Shade, Durza, Shades are horrible monsters that no one has ever defeated. Eragon was trapped in the Dragonhold and couldn’t get out. Then the Shade, Durza appeared. Eragon couldn’t get help and instead of finding a way out he stood his ground and fought the Shade. He was easily defeated and was stabbed across the back. Through their battle Saphira and Arya came flying through the dragonhold and started fighting at the Urgals and Kull. That distraction gave Eragon enough strength and with one final blow stabbed the shade right directly in the heart, killing Durza once and for all. I find his actions selfless and brave because he didn’t back down and fought for the Varden and the people in it. He was also strong willed because if he’d called for Saphira he could have been saved, except she had been slightly wounded in battle and he didn’t want her to get hurt even more, so he fought Durza alone.

SUMMARY
The Eragon is about a poor farm boy who comes across a discovery that changes his life.
Eragon lives on a farm on the outskirts of the town Carvahall, where he grew up. He’s lived his whole life on that farm with his uncle Garrow, and his cousin Roran, his parents disappeared when he was very young.
Eragon is hunting one day in the Spine, it’s a large land outside of Carvahall that is feared to go into, and discovers a large glowing, blue stone that appeared in an explosion of light and burned the nearest trees to ash. When Eragon brings home the stone, hoping it’s worth something, it catches the eye of the storyteller. That night the stone Eragon thinks it is, hatches, revealing a tiny blue dragon.
In one night Eragon’s life changes and he’s thrown into a world of magic and legends of the Dragon Riders with the only companionship of a dragon and an old storyteller. He’s tracking down the Ra'zac who killed his uncle, while on the run from Galbatorix, the fearsome ruler of the empire. While battles rage and death follows, Eragon may not escape it all with even his life.
