Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: Jack R.

Harry Potter
and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Harry Potter is about an 11 year old kid that has to live with the Dursleys (his horrible aunt and uncle, and their big spoiled sun Dudley). Harry’s room is a tiny closet at the foot of the stairs. One day Harry got a letter to go to Hogwarts school of wizards and witchcraft and their he makes friends and goes on meny adventures at Hogwarts.

I chose these songs for Harry because he is brave, and curious for these reasons. First of all I chose Eyes Of Tiger because Harry went after the Sorcerer’s Stone. This shows that Harry is willing to save the world when he knows he could die. Lastly I  chose The Nutcracker because Harry snuck out at night to see what the Sorcerer’s Stone was after he heard what Hagrid seid. This shows that Harry is curious about everything. For these reasons Harry is brave, and curious.

Once Upon a Marigold: Bella M.

The first song I picked is based on Christian, the maine character of the book. The song I chose is called Leave it all behind by Nightcore. This hardcore song really hits on Christian’s experiences and all he’s been through. Christian ran away from home when he was six and blackmailed his way into making the troll Edric take him in, and eventually opens up to him. Eleven years later, he leaves home to see the world and heads toward the castle and becomes a servant for the castle housekeeper and eventually becomes Princess Marigolds lover but not until many things happen. The next song is based on Princess Marigold. The song I chose is called Bird Set Free. This free song focuses on the most important parts of Princess Marigold. Princess Marigold is not your ordinary run-of-the-mill princess. She’s not afraid to get her hands dirty yet she is scorned for that. Princess Marigold is not allowed to leave the castle as punishment and for other reasons. She desperately wants to be able to see the world. The last song I picked is based on the villain of the story, Olympia. The song is Mean by Taylor Swift. This song focuses on what Olympia really is: MEAN. Olympia is proud loud woman who loves to stand out. You know what she also loves? Power. So much that she’ll make her daughter marry someone she hates just to get her away from the castle or kill her daughter for it.

Inference: Olympia is vain

Olympia cares very much for her appearance and the appearance of others. She always thinks the bigger the better, but that can lead to her and others wearing very gaudy clothes and jewelry. On page 37, Marigold had her crown hung on the back of her chair while she was reading, and Olympia hates that! It even states that Olympia is excessively concerned about her own and everyone’s wardrobe. On page 88,it says that Olympias beauty was so fake that it looked like it was artificial. On page 111, Meg the scullery maid says that Olympia is so lazy, even though she changes six times a day. On pages 163 & 164, Olympia created a monstrosity of a wedding dress for Marigold with pearls, lace, ribbons, embroidery, brilliants, and heavens knows what else, completely suiting Olympia’s taste.

Once Upon a Marigold is about a boy named Christian who ran away from home when he was six. When he comes to the woods, He meets Edric: a three foot tall troll who takes in Christian and eventually becomes Christians foster father. Zoom forward eleven years. Edric is getting ready for his campaign the tooth fairy, and Christian is making weird food concoctions and inventions. One day he sends a message to Princess Marigold, and everything changes. He ends taking a job at the palace just to be closer to her. Crazy things happen: kissing another man’s girl, suitors, but biggest of all: Olympia set to kill her daughter, Princess Marigold. This book is good for those who like fantasy, anticipation, comedy, love, and everything except what’s under the kitchen sink.

Because of Mr. Terupt: Trinity S.

Because of Mr. Terupt

Mr. Terupt: The song I found for Mr. Terupt was Stand By You - Rachel Platten. This song really is the perfect song. This song represents the relationship between his students toward the middle of the book they all become friends and the start knowing each other, and they start trusting each other. A part in the book where it shows that is when Mr. Terupt sticks up for Anna when she got picked on and made fun of.

Jessica: I chose the song Love Myself by: Hailee Steinfeld. This is the song I chose because Jessica who just doesn’t really fit in so at school so she loves herself and when I first read the book I knew she was the type of person that was shy but not at the same time. In the beginning of the book she says that she is having a hard time because she “betrayed” Alixia for being nice to Danielle. That also shows how rude Alexia is too. Jessica’s dad also didn’t move to Connecticut

Alexia: I picked out the song Try by: Colbie Caillat. I knew this would fit Alexia because Alexia tries hard to look good for boys and she tries to make herself look good but on the inside she is mean. Alexia also always say like, like all the time. I thought, when I first read the book that she was the prissy, mean, popular girl. Also in the book Danielle said the Alexia would talk bad about Jessica and even Anna.

Danielle: This song Let it Go by: James Bay really fit because she is shy and the type of person to just let it go and not take a big worry about the little things. In the book when Mr. Terupt gave big projects she wouldn’t get stressed about them she would just kind of let it go and when Alexia said man thing about other people when she was talking behind Jessica and Anna’s back Danielle told Lexie to stop talking behind their backs

Peter: This song totally fits him Troublemaker by: Olly Murs ft. Flo-rida. He is the class troublemaker he is always creating trouble or getting into trouble. A part in the book when he is a troublemaker is when he was running down the hall and ran into the principal, the principal fell and her skirt fell a little bit and her underwear was showing

Anna: Anna is the confident but also the outcast. She is the total confident girl. That is why I chose the song Confident by: Demi Lovato. She is still confident even when her home situations make her the outcast. When her mom is young to be a mom and she is the shy one

Jeffery: The one that hates school. That is when I found this song I knew it would fit Jeffery. I Really don’t Care by: Demi Lovato because he doesn’t really care. He calls the kid in his class alright (in the beginning of the year). Jeffery is kind of a jerk in the beginning of the year when he calls Danielle fat.

Luke: Luke is the person that would like smooth, classy music. That is when I found this song Inner City Blues - Marvin Gaye. This song fits Luke because when Mr. Terupt announced that they were having their first math project, Luke was the most excited for it because he is the big brainiac in the class, and he loves math.

The Running Dream: Lauren D.

The Running Dream book that I’m doing my BTP on is about a sixteen year old girl named Jessica. She is a runner and that’s who she is. But when a sudden accident happens it holds her back, and is afraid that she will never be back to herself as a runner. The doctors tell her she’ll be back to running in no time, but recovery is slow and full of ups and downs. But later Jessica wonders if the girl who died in the accident got the better end of the deal. But as Jessica tries to recover she gets to know Rosa--a girl with cerebral palsy whom she and her friends always overlooked. And in the future she sees running as an option.

I picked Running Low by Shawn Mendes because it is a song about running and in the book The Running Dream she is trying to recover from her injury so that she can get back to running. I picked the song I Run For Life by Melissa Etheridge because it is about people who face medical challenges and how they face them with pride and courage just like Jessica. I also picked the song Fight Song by Rachel Platten because Jessica wants to take back her running dream even with her accident. These three songs represent the strength that Jessica showed at a very hard time in her life.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules: Trevor C.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules by: Jeff Kinney
The reason I pick Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes for Rowley is because he is very childish and I thought it fit him well. The reason I did A Rock song for rodrick is because Rodrick is in a heavy metal band called loded diper and yes if you have read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series then you know that loded diper is spelled wrong. The reason I picked a Civil War march song for Greg’s dad is because he is into Civil War and Civil War reenactments, and last but not least we come to the main character Greg I picked a rap song because he’s into heavy metal but not as much as rodrick and to show that his life has it’s ups and downs just like rap, sometimes it’s hardcore speed than other times it slow and calm.

Wrinkle in Time: Hannah H.

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'engle

Summary:
A Wrinkle in Time is about a girl name Meg Murry a high-school girl who went on an adventure to find her dad with her brother Charles Wallace and a friend named Calvin. Meg’s dad was working on a project call tesseract (a wrinkle in time). There was another planet in the universe that Meg’s dad was working on, but he got caught there, they wouldn’t let him get out.
One night there was an old lady come to Meg house in the dark, stormy night, her name is Mrs. Whatsit. She told Meg that she knew where Meg’s father was. Then she disappeared when she went outside. Meg and Charles Wallace went to a small house where no one lived . And there they met Calvin.  There they met Mrs. Who, she is an old lady who helped them find Meg’s dad.
    Explain your song choices:
  1. I chose “In the End” by Linkin Park because the song is about no matter how hard you try they still drop you, they don’t care about how far you go they just feel like it doesn’t matter. So it’s like Meg Murry, she tried and she is very smart at math, she could do it quick in the easy way and short, but the teacher in the school told her that she needed to write more and needed to show how it worked and she had to do it like the way they teach.
  2. Second I chose the song called “Firework” by Katy Perry. I chose the song  because it’s about how you have to stand up and never give up. There always is a door leading you to the perfect road but you have to wait and never give up. It’s like when Meg didn’t have many friends but she still had Charles Wallace to play with and always on her side. And when Meg’s brother Charles Wallace had been controlled by the man with the red eyes. At that moment Meg explained to Charles Wallace and wanted him to remember everything, but he couldn’t because the man with red eyes so powerful. That’s why Charles Wallace couldn’t get out of that control. Meg went to another planet with her father because they were in the dangerous situation so Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which used their magic and turned Meg, Meg’s father and Calvin to another time. So they couldn’t rescue Charles Wallace, but Meg wanted to save her brother as fast as she could. Finally she went back to the place that Charles Wallace had been control alone and rescued him.
  3. This song called “Waiting for love”. So the song is about waiting for love every day and so it liked Meg waiting for his father. The love that song talked about can be anyone, I mean love for your mom, family, animals……. so Meg and Meg’s mother were waiting for her father also at the last part Meg said to Charles Wallace about she how much she loved him and wanted him to come back and to recognize everybody.

Cinder: Lina F.

Cinder is based on the the fairytale cinderella but is about this girl named Cinder who is a cyborg who lives with her stepmother and stepsisters and works as a mechanic. And one day while she is at work she meets prince Kai who then falls in love with Cinder but he has to marry the evil queen Levana who is the queen of Luna. So prince Kai has to marry Levana so there will be peace between Earth and Luna, so queen Levana will give them the medicine to cure the plague. Because it is killing a lot of people around the world. But Cinder and a lot of other people don’t like queen Levana. Cinder is one of the best mechanics in the city .But she has to give all the money she gets to her stepmother, Cinder has always tried to please her stepmom but her stepmom never likes Cinder. But Cinder has a strong personality but when Kai asks her to the ball she thinks that he would never like her because she is a cyborg and that he can just pick any other girl he wants. So she decides that she won’t tell him and won’t matter because he won’t pick her. But then her stepmom decides to send Cinder to the cyborg draft where they test cyborgs. So they can find a cure for the plague. But at the laboratory she bumps into Kai and he just thinks that she is just there to fix some problems they have because she is a mechanics

Kai- Let me Love you -  I choose that song because it goes well with Kai because he wants to show Cinder how great she is, and that he really likes her. So then Kai would go out of his way to get Cinder to go to the ball with him but she keeps saying no. And he wants to be there for Cinder.

Cinder - Stronger - I choose the song stronger for Cinder because she is always standing up for self because her stepmother and stepsister, Pearl, are always making fun of her because she is cyborg . But her other stepsister, Peony, is always nice to her, and treats her like is her real sister. And Cinder would do anything for Peony even dealing with her stepmom and sister every day.

The book- Count on Me- I choose the song count on me because Cinder and Kai can count on each other when they need help. And Kai tried to help Cinder when she got caught by queen Levana and Cinder helped Kai with his android when it was broken. And every needs someone to count on.

The Thing About Jellyfish: Nadia B.

The songs I have chosen are for the main character in this book named Suzy Swanson.  The first song I chose was When We Were Young by Adele.  This song is about remembering the past. The story switches from past to present and Suzy often looks back on the past when her friend Franny used to be around.  Suzy’s friend Franny had died over summer vacation from what Suzy was told drowning.  She was grieving from the loss of her friend.  Suzy often thinks about when they were young, so I picked this song.  Suzy missed her friend so badly, so she decided to try to find out what exactly had happened to Franny the day she died.  Suzy was a good friend to Franny because even when her friend was gone she didn’t believe Franny’s story was over.  She began to find out information about jellyfish on things like how many deaths they make per year, and Suzy started to realize that Franny could have possibly died from a jellyfish sting.  Suzy was so devastated by her Franny’s death that she even decided that she would no longer speak to anyone, and at that time she really didn’t have anyone but her family and therapist to speak to.  Suzy desperately needed someone to talk to but felt like she just couldn’t trust anyone.
The next song I chose was Hello by Adele.  Before Franny had died it seemed like Suzy’s friendship with her was just drifting away more and more.  Franny started hanging out with the more popular kids in their grade and no longer sat with Suzy at lunch.  It seemed like Suzy was often thinking “can you hear me?” which are lyrics from the song Hello.  I thought this song was perfect because it seemed like this thought crosses her mind quite some time.  Franny ignored her time after time and soon it seemed like they never even were friends.  Suzy cared about Franny even when they were not as close as they used to be.  Suzy had thought of how Franny could not have died from something like drowning and that there could be more to her story, when she was on a school trip to the aquarium.  She saw a poster on Irukandji jellyfish and it crossed her mind that maybe one could have possibly caused Franny’s death.  Suzy was strong for getting through the rough time when she didn’t have Franny by her side, which leads me to my next song.
The finale song I chose was Elastic Heart by Sia.  “I’ve got thick skin…” are lyrics from this song and it is true that Suzy definitely does.  It was extremely hard for Suzy to hear that her best friend had died, and she had to have thick skin to get through something as rough as losing a friend.  It is hard to hear that a loved one has died and very overwhelming and heartbreaking, so she had thick skin to have had fought through the sadness of losing her friend Franny.

I am Number 4: Gabe P.

I am Number 4 by Pittacus Lore

I am Number 4 is the first in a ongoing series with amazing characters story and more. The two main characters are John Smith and Henri Smith. They are aliens from the planet Lorien which has been attacked by the mongolians, so they had to send 10 children to earth to grow and gain their powers so they can go back to Lorien and take back their planet. Along the way John meets the love of his life Sarah Hart. But have way through their journey number 6 joins them

1 On The Road Again this is the song for the book and i pick this because John and Henri are always on the road.
2 Mad World this is for John because up until the middle of the book  he was sad and the reason way is he never stayed in one spot for more than 2 months.
3 The regulator this song was for Henri and the places they had to stay because Henri was always up and working and the houses they stayed in they always made it a bunker.

4 Happy this song is for Sarah and the reason way i picked this song is because sarah is always happy.

5 White and nerdy, this song is for Sam because in the beginning of the book Sam was that one nerdy kid no one liked, but after a while sam became pretty bad butt, so this song is more for the beginning of the book.

Maximum Ride: Stefan B

Maximum Ride by James Patterson
I chose Radioactive for multiple reasons. First off, in the song, the singer specifically quotes “Welcome to the new age” and I think that relates to how the the world main characters are “new” people, because they have altered DNA. They also are powerful compared to normal humans in that they can fly, and the song feels empowering and talks about “Waking up” and feeling powerful.
The flock connects to the next song, Immortals, in a bunch of different ways. The song repeats the word “Immortals” many times, and even though they aren’t immortal, they escape from tons of tight situations, and even when you think they will die for sure, they end up escaping and are fine after a few days. This also can refer to the fact that the flock heals extremely quickly, so if they get injured, they will be fine in a few days. In the song, the singer says“I try to picture me without you but I can’t.” and that applies to the flock because they always try to stick together and even when one leaves, they come back after a while.
Can’t Hold Us represents the flock because the ceiling literally can’t hold them. They have wings and can fly, so the ceiling can’t hold them from flying. Also, the bad guys in the book always catch them, and when it seems hopeless, they always escape and turn out fine, so the bad guys ceiling can’t hold them. Finally, the song and the book are both very fast paced.
The song that best represents the book as a whole is Skyfall. Skyfall is a good theme for the book because the song is about the world ending, and Maximum Ride needs to lead the flock to save the world. Max is also usually never happy, and Skyfall is a sad song.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: Maddy C.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter has barely known anything but his cupboard under the stairs, his awful Aunt and Uncle, and his even worse cousin, Dudley. He has a strange lightning bolt shaped scar that he received in the car crash that killed his parents. He is mistreated by his only living relatives, the Dursleys, and would do anything to escape them. One day, as he’s getting the mail when it arrives in the mailslot, he is incredibly surprised to find that there is a letter addressed to himself. But when he returns the rest of the mail to his uncle and starts opening the letter, Uncle Vernon snatches it from his hand, reads the front, and destroys it. Why is he so angry at Harry getting mail? Harry is devastated: he never gets mail – but the next day the same letter arrives – and Uncle Vernon rips it up; but they come again. And again. Until finally, Uncle Vernon rushes them away to a distant island in the middle of a lake thinking mail won’t come, but it does, but with great half-giant, called Hagrid, who enters the cabin, and tells Harry that he is a wizard, and that his parents were murdered by a dark wizard, and that Harry’s famous for surviving the curse that was supposed to kill him, but only left a small scar upon his forehead. But then Hagrid whisks him away to a school entirely devoted to educating wizard children, called Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is actually treated nicely, is fairly popular, and is on the road to discovering his destiny… if he can survive it.
I picked three songs to represent Harry and what he’s going through. The first song I picked for Harry is called Fireflies by Owl City. Harry isn’t cocky, like some people in his school think. He’s actually incredibly curious, bright, and brave. When he’s introduced to the wizarding world, he’s stunned that there’s such a thing, and so relieved to be able to escape his cousins. The song Fireflies is about a curious man who thinks he’s dreaming, although he’s not sure if it’s real, which is exactly how Harry feels when he’s told about the wizarding world, on pages 50 and 51. When Hagrid tells Harry he’s a wizard, Harry gasps, “I’m a what?” and after reading his acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, his mouth actually hangs open, which shows disbelief, which is what the person in the song Fireflies is experiencing as well, because sometimes when something crazy happens, you think you’re dreaming, which is how Harry feels.
The second song I picked is called Magic by Coldplay. It is about someone who is in love and believes it’s magic when they’re with their partner. That’s sort of how Harry feels about his school, Hogwarts, as the book progresses. He knows if something is going to happen at Hogwarts, then it’s going to be magic (obviously, it’s a school for magic). Additionally, at the end of the song, the narrator sings, “And if you were to ask me – after all that we’ve been through – if I still believe in magic? Well yes I do, oh yes, I do, oh yes, I do, oh yes, I do, of course I do.” That would most likely be the exact response Harry would give to someone if they asked him after he returned to his cousin's’ house for the summer holidays if he still believed in magic, because he’s been through so much since the beginning of the Hogwarts year, when he wasn’t even sure if magic existed, like on pages 50 and 51.
The third song I picked is called Fight Song by Rachel Platten. It is about somebody who’s been through some pretty awful things in their life (like Harry) and is deciding be strong and just deal with it. Harry is pretty much malnourished by the Dursleys, always has second-hand clothes that are two sizes too big on him, and is locked away in a closet for most of his life. After ten years of being mistreated, he just decides to deal with it, maybe even giving his cousins some cheek here and there, like when Vernon Dursley tried to take Harry’s letter from Hogwarts from him, but Harry didn’t go down without a fight (even though the letter was shredded in the end).
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a really wonderful book (and series!) and I hope you read it.
